Faculty of Applied Social Sciences
The Faculty of Applied Social Sciences at Dresden University of Applied Sciences offers two Bachelor's degree programmes in two study formats each in the field of social and health care with high future potential: Nursing and Health Care Management (B.A.) in full-time and part-time formats, and Social Education and Management (B.A.) in full-time and part-time formats. Our students acquire basic academic knowledge in the respective degree programmes, which is taught in an application-oriented manner with close practical relevance. Building on this, the basic know-how is expanded in the various selectable compulsory elective modules for each subject area, which are oriented towards the currently demanded competences in nursing, health care, social services and management tasks. Our mission is to train highly qualified personalities who not only understand how to successfully accompany social, health, nursing and socio-economic processes, but also how to proactively shape them. Accordingly, the overarching focus of our education lies in the areas of social and health-related innovation, sound transfer of business knowledge to non-profit enterprises, sustainability and empirical social research.
Both study formats enable our students to obtain a university degree in their respective life situations. The professors and lecturers of the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences are particularly experienced in the education of students with relevant professional training and students who are already in their profession and aiming for a university degree.
Teaching takes place in small groups, is interactive and the exchange with professors and lecturers is at eye level. Through close contact with our students, we offer individual support and a family atmosphere. Through the integration of practical partners in the form of guest lectures, workshops, excursions and project work, students already make their first contacts in the working world during their studies. In addition to trends from practice, current findings from intra- and interdisciplinary research projects at the FHD flow directly into the teaching. The FHD campus also offers ideal conditions for focused, success-oriented face-to-face study: short distances, quick access to contact persons and modern facilities and technology.
All degree programmes at the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences are accredited and state-recognised and follow the European reference framework for awarding credits. Accordingly, the degree has the same recognition as the degrees of state universities and universities of applied sciences and qualifies students to pursue a Master's degree in the respective subject areas at other universities.
We are happy to advise first-year students personally on the specific content of the degree programmes, the special features of a private degree programme and later career potential as well as follow-up opportunities. We are happy to offer students from other universities new or additional perspectives and check the creditability of previous credits as well as a possible shortening of the degree programme.
