Faculty of Applied Social Sciences
The Faculty of Applied Social Sciences at Dresden University of Applied Sciences offers Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in the field of social and health services with high potential for the future:
Bachelor's degree programmes
- Nursing & Health Care Management (B.A.)
- Social Pedagogy & Management (B.A.)
- Vocational Education for Nursing & Health Professions (B.A.)
Master's programmes
Our students acquire basic academic knowledge in the respective degree programmes, which is taught in an application-oriented manner with close practical relevance. Building on this, the basic know-how is expanded in the various selectable compulsory elective modules for each subject area, which are oriented towards the currently demanded competences in nursing, health care, social work and management tasks. Our mission is to train highly qualified personalities who not only understand how to successfully accompany social, health, nursing and socio-economic processes, but also how to proactively shape them. Accordingly, the overarching focal points of our education are in the areas of social and health-related innovation, sound transfer of business knowledge to non-profit enterprises, sustainability and empirical social research.
Forms of study
The degree programmes can be attended by students either full-time or part-time.
Both study formats enable our students to obtain a university degree in their respective life situations. The professors and lecturers at the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences are particularly experienced in training students with a relevant professional background who are already in their profession and are aiming for a university degree.
Structure of the teaching
Teaching takes place in small groups, is interactive and the exchange with professors and lecturers is at eye level. Through close contact with our students, we offer individual support and a family atmosphere. Through the integration of practical partners in the form of guest lectures, workshops, excursions and project work, students already make their first contacts in the working world during their studies. In addition to trends from practice, current findings from intra- and interdisciplinary research projects at the FHD flow directly into the teaching. The FHD campus also offers ideal conditions for focused, success-oriented face-to-face study: short distances, quick access to contact persons and modern facilities and technology.
Accreditation and recognition
All degree programmes at the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences are accredited and state-recognised and follow the European reference framework for the awarding of credits. Accordingly, the degree has the same recognition as the degrees of state universities and universities of applied sciences and qualifies students to pursue a Master's programme at other universities in the respective subject areas.
Student advisory service
We are happy to advise prospective students personally on the specific content of the degree programmes, the special features of a private degree programme and later career potential as well as follow-up opportunities. We are happy to offer new or additional perspectives to students from other universities and to prospective students with previous professional qualifications, and we will check whether previous credits can be credited and whether the degree programme can be shortened.
