Equal Opportunities Officer

The FHD adopted a new concept for equality and diversity in July 2020. It is committed to gender mainstreaming. In its concepts and decisions, it takes into account the situation of women and men as well as other discriminatory target groups.

Gender equality contributes to the quality assurance of teaching, staff development and the promotion of young academics. It is a cross-sectional task that aims to develop and ensure optimal framework conditions for equal opportunities for all. This is expressed in the organizational development of more equal opportunities:

• Increasing the proportion of women in management and leadership positions and equality for all in academic practice
• Raising awareness of gender aspects in personnel development, teaching, public relations and continuing education
• The compatibility of studies, career and family for women and men in the sense of a family-friendly university

The Equal Opportunities and Diversity Officer regularly analyzes the situation and defines measures for further work in cooperation with the Rectorate and administration. These include

• the structural and substantive expansion of equality and diversity work
• Measures to promote the compatibility of family, studies and career as well as people with disabilities / of a different origin or language during their studies
• Measures to integrate women's, gender and diversity research into teaching

The Equal Opportunities Officers accompany all recruitment interviews and the appointment of professors. They advise students with special needs on issues relating to the organization of their studies.

They also perform the tasks of the Diversity Officer. The aims of this work are

• Awareness of the diversity of identities and identity constructions and existing power relations
• Raising awareness of discrimination and questioning the norms on which it is based
• Understanding and valuing social diversity as a potential

For students with disabilities, chronic illnesses, language barriers or other disadvantages, the legislator has established compensation for disadvantages, which can be applied for individually. These mostly consist of modifications to the examination conditions:

• Change of examination form: oral - written; written exam - term paper etc.
• Extension of the examination time (extension of writing time or preparation time)
• Extension of the processing time for term papers, assignments and Bachelor's theses
• Performance splitting (division of coursework into individual sections)
• Postponement of examination dates
• Modification of practical examinations
