Dresden is a wonderful place, especially for students.
It's a great place to live: The Saxon capital is the second most affordable place to study in Germany and you can find a shared room here quickly and easily. With more than 45,000 students and 17 universities, Dresden is a popular student city - which means lots of young people, lots of student clubs, bars and parties and countless leisure activities.
The Saxon cultural metropolis is world-famous and a tourist magnet for good reason - on warm summer evenings, Dresden's old town feels like you're on vacation. The impressive architecture against the backdrop of Dresden's history never ceases to fascinate. There is always something going on in Dresden and so much to experience. Are you interested in culture? Then Dresden is the right place for you, whether you prefer to watch a ballet performance in the breathtaking Semper Opera House, a play in the State Theatre or an exhibition in the famous Green Vault. Tip: For students, there are of course significantly discounted tickets for these and other exciting cultural experiences.
Or are you more drawn to nature? Then you'll feel right at home in Dresden. You can cycle along the Elbe cycle path in Dresden, climb in Saxon Switzerland or go for a walk in the Großer Garten (right next to the FHD campus!). The Elbe Sandstone Mountains are just around the corner - just half an hour's train ride and you're right in the middle of it all. Especially in summer, Dresden students can usually be found on the Elbe meadows: Every year, film nights and concerts take place here against the beautiful backdrop of Dresden's old town, but the Elbe meadows are of course also the most popular place in Dresden for picnics, inline skating or playing flunkyball. Later in the evening, you can meet up in Dresden's trendy Neustadt district. There is always something going on here, and many bars and clubs invite you to party until the sun rises again.
