From social worker to social manager: the next step in your career.
The Master's degree programme in Social Work and Management (M.A.) enables you to work in leading positions in the social economy, which are diverse and challenging because the focus is always on people and their role in our society.
During your studies, you will deepen and expand your knowledge and skills in the field of social education, social work and social management. After graduating, you will be able to manage companies in the social economy or work in the field of education, quality and personnel management as well as organisational development in the diverse fields of social work.
In the degree programme Social Work and Management (M.A.), managers in social work are trained at an academic level. Thus, the degree programme not only teaches professional knowledge and skills in the field of social pedagogy and social work, but also places a further emphasis on social management.
The Master's programme normally lasts 4 semesters. You will acquire the state and internationally recognised Master of Arts (M.A.), which qualifies you for leading positions in the social sector.
The combination of technical and methodological competences and their application in real work situations is an elementary component of the degree programme. You can apply your theoretical knowledge in your own projects and optimally link theory and practice in practical transfer and reflection seminars.
Upon successful completion of the consecutive Master's programme "Social Work and Management (M.A.)", graduates are awarded the academic Master's degree with the title Master of Arts (M.A.).
With a degree in social work, graduates can be employed in many sectors in various occupational fields and have very good career prospects in view of the social structures. Graduates can take up senior positions in various fields of social work and are able to work professionally at staff and management level. Possible fields of work are, for example:
Youth welfare offices
Schools and day care centres
Work with and for people with disabilities or mental illnesses
Homes and family centres
Counselling centres
Education, training and further education
Research and evaluation
In addition, there are employment opportunities in public authorities, offices, in politics, in the free economy and very often in church or other social institutions, which in their work look after people who are disadvantaged in society. In addition, there are now also more and more interesting jobs for social workers in companies in the free economy, for example, in advising employees or in the area of personnel. The Master's programme at the FHD also enables graduates to promote, found and manage their own social projects and ideas.

In order to be able to offer you this high quality of study, we have to charge tuition fees. As a private university, the FHD is not supported by public funds, but has to finance itself completely.
Of course, there are various ways in which you can finance your studies. We will be happy to look at your individual situation and find solutions together.
The programme is aimed at graduates who have already obtained a first university degree recognised in Germany with at least 180 credit points (Bachelor's or Diplom degree). The following Bachelor's degree programmes are considered relevant: Degrees in the field of social work, social pedagogy, social pedagogy and management, social management, childhood pedagogy, sociology, psychology, as well as related degree programmes that do not show any significant differences in content, scope and requirements to those.
