Blended Intensive Programme in Croatia

Nine of our students from the Business Administration and Tourism & Event Management programmes travelled to Croatia in April with Prof. Dr. Jan Endrikat to take part in the Erasmus-funded Blended Intensive Programme (BIP). The Erasmus+ project entitled "Current Trends in the Event Industry" was carried out in cooperation with the ASPIRA University of Applied Sciences in Split. In addition to Dresden University of Applied Sciences and Aspira University, other universities from Portugal, Austria and Slovenia were also involved in the implementation.
Thirty guest students worked together in international and multidisciplinary teams on various tasks, case studies and projects, which they presented to a jury of experts at the end of the project week. Of course, our students also took the opportunity to explore the beautiful coastal city of Split during the project week.

VR prototyping

The #metaverse is knocking on the door, and traditional online shops and the like are slowly becoming obsolete. That's why every year, our business administration students in Prof. Schmiedgen's "Innovation & Digital Business" module explore the question of how customer experiences can be reimagined and what they might look like in the future. Should we simply create virtual sales worlds, or should we merge them with other experiences in the metaverse?
In the process, students learn first-hand how anyone can use current virtual reality applications to create virtual prototypes. The key is that no programming knowledge is required. Within a few hours, students build their own virtual environments – directly in virtual space. They search for suitable objects, integrate them and develop the staging of the "shopping" experience. Sometimes subversive, sometimes progressive. Finally, the results are presented to fellow students, tested and discussed. The aim is to learn about new technologies and their practical application directly during their studies, in addition to economic knowledge, to reduce reservations about them and, in the process, to actively question existing patterns.

Cross-programme project

Every year, the FHD holds a cross-disciplinary project in which students from the Business Administration, Media Informatics & Media Design and Graphic Design programmes work together to develop a project and present it to a jury of experts. In 90-second pitches, the interdisciplinary teams present their business ideas and then answer questions from the jury. In addition to many questions about production, financing, cooperation opportunities, differentiation from the competition, target groups and marketing aspects, the jury members also provide helpful tips and suggestions for further developing the business models. Here is a small insight into the diverse and innovative product ideas of our students:

LifeSkills – Your compass for growing up

LifeSkills is an all-in-one app for all the important topics of adult life. It offers support and encouraging solutions to help you find your way as you grow up. This includes topics such as insurance, moving lists and important documents. The app works according to the "Learn - Do - Get" principle:

  • Learn = general information, interesting input

  • Do = helpful checklists

  • Get = further links to sources, partner apps, etc., products, books, recommendations

Silent Guard

bello – your bike, your bell, your sound

A special accessory for cyclists who want to stand out from the crowd. The "bello" bicycle bell offers customisable sounds and a unique sound experience. You can customise the sound via an app (e.g. record your own voice, birdsong, favourite song, etc.). The bell is sustainably produced and impresses with its individuality and innovation.

vibe guide – The all-round club app

Be mind – for a balanced life and an organised everyday routine

"Be mind" offers support, guidance, planning and tips to people with mental health issues, but also to anyone who wants to become more mindful. The app, which is complemented by a smartwatch, uses pulse measurement to recognise stressful situations, reacts and sends a reminder with helpful tips for relaxation. "Be mind" can not only be helpful in acute situations, but also break up the daily routine by reminding users to take regular breaks, drink water and take short exercise breaks. A collaboration with health insurance companies would be conceivable for the market launch.

“Happy Minds” – Discovering emotions through play

“extra” – Easy grocery shopping for everyone

The basic idea is to establish a regional, sustainable food shop that offers foodstuffs divided into different nutritional groups. Special food labels for different dietary requirements (e.g. vegan or gluten-free diets) are intended to make it easier for people with dietary restrictions to find these foods. This categorisation is also reflected in the spatial layout of the shop, which is designed to make shopping more time-efficient. It
is also about showing people with a specific dietary style or a congenital intolerance that they are not alone, but have a place in a community with the same problems and interests. For this reason, various events are also offered, such as cooking evenings, where customers have the opportunity to exchange ideas.

“Flinke Pfote” – pet food delivered in no time at all

“voyable” – A travel app for people with limited mobility

An app that enables people with limited mobility to plan and book their journeys in advance, according to their individual needs.
Whether paraplegic or experiencing walking difficulties due to age, a large part of the population faces challenges such as stairs, uneven paved surfaces or finding a suitable toilet. The "voyable" app is designed to make travelling easier, so that everyone can enjoy carefree travel experiences.
