In January 2025, students from the Business Administration and Tourism & Event Management programmes were given an exclusive insight into Sachsenmilch in Leppersdorf, one of the most modern milk processing plants in Europe. With 3,000 employees and an annual production of 1.7 billion kilograms of milk, the company demonstrates impressive process optimisation and efficient production processes. The students experienced the entire production process and visited the seven laboratories, where 3 million analyses are carried out annually.

excursions
Excursion & project week in Croatia
Nine students from the Business Administration and Tourism & Event Management programmes at Dresden University of Applied Sciences (FHD) took part in an international exchange programme in Split, Croatia, from 8 to 12 April 2024. Led by Prof. Dr. Jan Endrikat, they visited ASPIRA University of Applied Sciences and participated in the Erasmus+ programme "Current Trends in the Event Industry" with a focus on sustainability.
The students worked in international teams with participants from Portugal, Austria and Slovenia on various projects and visited the 5-star Hotel Ambasador and the OPG farm in Brštanovo. These experiences inspired them to design their own "sustainable event", which they presented to a jury. In addition to the professional exchange, the students also explored the historic old town of Split and the Adriatic Sea.
Excursion to Siemens
At FHD, practical learning means that students don't just learn in the classroom, but also through excursions to companies in the region. This gives our students insight into the job market in Saxony, allows them to network with employers and teaches them how to apply their knowledge and skills in their careers.
The Business Administration programme at FHD includes two logistics modules. To better understand and comprehend production processes, our students visited the Siemens transformer factory in Dresden – and made some exciting contacts in the process.
With around 86,000 employees and 125 locations in Germany, Siemens is one of the largest private employers and one of the leading technology companies in Germany.
Excursion & Workshop Fraunhofer IWS
Making technical innovations comprehensible to B2B customers and communicating their potential is a constant challenge in marketing, corporate communications and innovation management. To gain a deeper insight into this area in practice, our students from the Business Administration and Tourism & Event Management programmes visited the Fraunhofer Institute for Material and Beam Technology IWS with Prof. Schmiedgen in January. Markus Forytta, Head of Corporate Communications, and Thomas Theling, Industrial Designer, showed us how they solve this challenge, which players are involved and which trade fair exhibits have caused a particular stir in the past. The strategy behind Fraunhofer's corporate product design was also explained. The Laser Technology Centre – a facility where laser technologies are researched and tested – was also visited. Afterwards, the students themselves developed concepts for a trade fair stand in a workshop, including demonstrators and their staging. The main focus was on translating the benefits for the target groups in an understandable way. After the presentation of the results, essential tips based on practical experience were provided.
Excursion to VW
Volkswagen Sachsen GmbH is a major employer in the region and a driver of innovation in automotive engineering. With around 10,000 employees, Volkswagen Sachsen is one of Saxony's largest companies in terms of turnover.
Our Business Administration degree programme focuses on digital business, among other things. That's why it's particularly exciting for students to see how innovative gadgets such as VR glasses and VR experiences are used by companies. Our students took a closer look at this and tried it out for themselves during their visit to the Transparent Factory on Straßburger Platz – directly opposite our campus building. During a tour of the 83,000 m² exhibition and production area, they gained a comprehensive overview of production topics, innovative products and the future of mobility.
