Fachhochschule Dresden

Adrian Burmeister, BA

Congratulations on your successful bachelor's thesis. Please tell us briefly what your thesis was about and why you chose this topic.

My bachelor's thesis was about sustainability reporting in accordance with the CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) by corporations in Germany. In the course of my research, I spoke with three companies from different industries and compared their statements. Finally, I gave my assessment of how companies that will be subject to reporting requirements in the future should proceed. I chose this topic because it is very topical and there are still few uniform and proven procedures.

Where will your career take you after graduation? What aspect of your future job excites you the most?

During my studies at the FHD, I worked in a craft business and will continue to work there after I graduate. In addition, I will begin a distance learning course in electrical and information technology in order to obtain long-term career opportunities in this company. I am particularly excited about helping to further develop a medium-sized company.

What were your expectations of the course and were they met?

I expected to be able to learn in a practical way – and this was fully met at the FHD. Through excursions and current case studies, I was able to gain a lot of practical experience. In addition, we had a strong sense of cohesion in the course, and we could always reach the professors and lecturers when questions arose.

In your opinion, what should someone bring to a degree programme in this field?

You should be curious and willing to critically question topics. The programme thrives on different opinions and interests. You should have a certain affinity for economics. However, this will develop automatically during your studies at the latest.

What is the most valuable experience from your time as a student?

Every encounter with people from the field who shared their experiences with us was enriching. I also enjoyed coming to university every day.

What did you enjoy most – which moments have stayed with you?

The trips to Poland and Croatia were particularly enjoyable. But I also have very positive memories of the many meetings outside of lectures and the exchanges during everyday student life. Graduation was a good end to my studies.
