Please upload a tabular CV and a recent portrait photo of yourself. The photo will later be used on your student ID card.
We also require a copy of an identity document for verification purposes, e.g. a copy of your identity card or passport.
You can find information on submitting a copy of your ID here.
For your application, we also require digital proof of your university entrance qualification. If your final certificate is not yet available at the time of application, please apply with your current half-yearly certificate. Once you have received your final certificate, you must submit it to us in person for inspection, either as an original or as a certified copy, at the latest by the start of your studies.
Please upload any certificates you have for your completed vocational training. Especially for students who wish to begin their studies without a school leaving certificate, proof of completed vocational training or further education in accordance with the requirements of §18 SächsHSG is necessary.
Proof of health insurance is required when applying for a full-time degree programme. A photo or scan of your electronic health card (chip card) is not considered sufficient proof. Furthermore, it is currently not possible for health insurance companies to send proof of insurance to Dresden University of Applied Sciences electronically. Please contact your health insurance company directly and request a membership certificate, which you can then upload to the application portal when submitting your application.
Proof of employment is required when applying for a part-time degree programme. Please upload the relevant proof in our application form.
The basic requirement for a first professionally qualifying university degree, such as a bachelor's degree, is a university entrance qualification (HZB) valid for the Free State of Saxony, such as
the general higher education entrance qualification, the Abitur
the Fachhochschulreife (note regional restrictions) or
the subject-specific university entrance qualification in a subject area corresponding to the degree programme.
(§18 (2) SächsHSG)
Important note on state restrictions: In Saxony (and Bavaria), the Fachhochschulreife, which is obtained in the upper secondary school without an Abitur examination and is based on the school part in conjunction with the vocational part, is not recognised as a university entrance qualification. This is also the case if a completed vocational training programme, a one-year supervised internship or a voluntary social or ecological year can be proven as the practical part of the Fachhochschulreife.
Regulated by Section 12 of the Agreement on the Organisation of Upper Secondary School and the School Leaving Examination.
Even without a school-leaving certificate qualifying you for university admission, you can still study in accordance with §18 SächsHSG (Saxon Higher Education Act) if you have one of the following qualifications.
Initial training with professional experience
The prerequisites for this are the completion of at least 2 years of state-regulated vocational training and at least 3 years of subsequent professional experience in the learned profession. In addition, a corresponding university entrance examination with a consultation at the university of applied sciences must be taken. Please register for this at the bottom of the page, but only after you have applied to us (§18 (3), No. 5, SächsHSG).
Professional advancement qualification
The following qualifications entitle the holder to university admission after a consultation (§18 (3), SächsHSG):
Master craftsman's examination in accordance with §18 (3) No. 1
Advanced training qualifications in accordance with §18 (3) No. 2
State certificate of competence for nautical or technical ship service in accordance with SächsHSG § 18 (3) No. 3
Qualification from technical colleges in accordance with the framework agreement on technical colleges pursuant to SächsHSG § 18 (3) No. 4, e.g. state-recognised educator/remedial therapist, state-certified technician, state-certified business economist, state-certified specialist (depending on the federal state and institution)
Qualification based on a comparable state law continuing education regulation for professions in the healthcare sector and in the field of social care and social education professions in accordance with SächsHSG § 18 (3) No. 5
Equivalent professional further training qualifications
Recognition of these qualifications requires that the professional training is based on at least two years of vocational training, includes advanced training, comprises at least 400 teaching hours and corresponds to a master craftsman's examination in terms of content and depth of training. The same applies to further training courses offered at state administrative and business academies that correspond to a master craftsman's examination in terms of content and depth of training (SächsHSG § 18 (3) No. 5(4).
Aptitude test for artistic degree programmes
In the degree programme "Graphic Design Screen & Print Media (B.A.)", it is possible to study without a school leaving certificate in accordance with §18 (3), No. 12 SächsHSG by demonstrating special artistic aptitude. This is proven by an aptitude assessment test and a counselling interview. Examination dates are arranged individually after receipt of the application.
When you started your studies, you received your semester ticket, which serves as your Germany ticket for public transport. Below is an explanation of what this entails.
What is the semester ticket?
The semester ticket is provided to all students at Dresden's universities as a Germany-wide semester ticket. It is a solidarity ticket: all students pay a uniform contribution of 60% of the fare for a regular Germany-wide ticket and in return receive unlimited use throughout the entire area of validity.
Why is the semester ticket compulsory?
Every student body at a university has the right to introduce the semester ticket for its members. The student body at FHD has decided to introduce it. All full-time students at FHD are required to pay the contribution. Financing is based on the principle of solidarity – this is the only way to make the favourable conditions possible.
How much is the contribution?
The amount of the contribution is based on the "Contribution Agreement of the Student Body of the Dresden University of Applied Sciences" valid for the respective semester.
Who has to pay the contribution?
All enrolled full-time students at the FHD are required to pay the contribution. The Dresden University of Applied Sciences collects the contributions and forwards them to the contractual partners.
Exemptions
Students in part-time degree programmes are exempt from the contribution obligation. However, they can purchase the semester ticket on a voluntary basis. Please inform the Student Secretariat by sending a short email.
In the following cases 1 to 3, full-time students can be exempted from the contribution obligation for one semester upon application:
How do you apply for exemptions?
Exemption applications must be submitted in writing with valid proof to the Student Secretariat by the end of the summer semester (30 September) or by the end of the winter semester (31 March).
Where can I find further information?
For further information, please contact Sandra Dallmann (Head of Student Administration) or the FHD Student Advisory Service.
Additional information on the semester ticket is also available online here.
