FHD is the number one private university of applied sciences and higher education institution in Saxony

Dresden University of Applied Sciences (FHD) was ranked No. 1 among private universities of applied sciences and higher education institutions by the CHE (Centre for Higher Education Development) in the category “Studying without a high school diploma.” It is also among the top 4 of all universities and universities of applied sciences in Saxony. We are proud of this achievement—especially because every year we support people without a traditional university entrance qualification on their educational journey.

We supported 34 first-year students without a high school diploma in successfully starting their studies and pursuing their academic path. The data refers to the year 2024.

How to study at FHD without a high school diploma:

Studying with us is possible even without a traditional university entrance qualification if you meet one of the following criteria:

• You have completed vocational training and have at least 3 years of professional experience
• Or you hold a master craftsman qualification
• Or you have completed further education or training totaling at least 400 hours
• Or you have a qualification as an educator or special needs caregiver
• Or you demonstrate your artistic abilities in an aptitude test (Graphic Design)
