Mach's wie Monique ...
Mitarbeiterin in der Donor Care des VKS Dresden
… study Nursing & Healthcare Management
What aspect of your job excites you the most?
What excites me the most is that we actually make a huge contribution and ensure that lives can be saved (so easily). The contact with all the donors, clinics and surgeries is great and overall my job brings a lot of variety. You never know what will happen the next day.
Did you imagine this kind of work at the beginning of your studies? Did you know right from the start what field you wanted to work in?
To be honest, I never had a concrete idea, but if anything, I was thinking of working in a hospital. My current field of work was rather unknown to me at the time until I was asked to be a donor during my studies and was ultimately able to save lives. My internship was then the deciding factor for my current job.
What expectations did you have of the degree programme and were they fulfilled?
My expectations were that I would be informed about the various aspects and areas (communication, financing & investment, controlling, etc.) of our care and healthcare system and, at best, find a job that suited me. It was already clear during my studies which specialisation was more fun and which was less interesting.
It was also very important for me to establish good contact with my fellow students and to enjoy my time at university.
In your opinion, what do you need to bring to a degree programme in this field?
As is probably the case in almost every field: self-confidence, openness and resilience as well as the ability to approach other people and deal with social problems.
What did you enjoy the most - what moments do you remember most?
We had a lot of great moments - the matriculation, where the excitement was enormous & everything was new at first, breaks together in the canteen, our trip to the labour court, the presentation of our communicative case analysis, the exmatriculation at the airport as the crowning finale..
The practical seminars were very cool and afterwards we were able to apply what we had learnt in practice in theory.
Thank you very much for the interview, Monique, and good luck with your job!
