Students visit the new Casanova Museum in Dresden

Exclusive insights ahead of the opening and a new practical project on the Tourism & Event Management degree programme

On 20 October 2026, our students from the TEM25 cohort on the Tourism & Event Management (B.A.) at FHD - University of Applied Sciences (FHD) were given an exclusive glimpse into the Casanova Museum Dresden, which is currently under construction and is set to open its doors on 31 October 2026. And whilst the finishing touches are still being put in place elsewhere, we are already tackling the question: how does an exhibition become a vibrant event venue?

As part of our partnership, the students are developing strategic event concepts for the museum in the ‘Cultural Events’ module, with the support of lecturer Karla Grosser. The focus is not only on creative ideas, but also on target audiences, visitor experiences, programme design, staff and resource planning, marketing and, above all, the financial viability of recurring event formats.

A heartfelt thank you to Thorsten Hilscher and Andre Doehring of the Casanova Museum in Dresden for their openness, the fascinating insights they have shared and the trust they have placed in our students.

Our students’ knowledge of the historical figure Giacomo Casanova has also been enriched by a number of surprising facets. For anyone who thinks of Casanova solely as the famous seducer is likely to be in for a surprise or two at the new museum on Dresden’s Altmarkt: From a well-travelled adventurer to a children’s book author and even a prison inmate, the various chapters of his eventful life can be experienced interactively here. We look forward not only to supporting this special cultural venue during its development phase, but also to working together to develop new ideas for events. And for those wondering what Casanova’s connection to Dresden actually is, the answers will be on display from 31 October 2026, daily from 10.00 to 20.00, at the Casanova Museum Dresden.
