I spent my semester abroad from September to February at Aspira University in Split, Croatia. Split is a beautiful city right on the Adriatic Sea, which I fell in love with right from the start. In addition to the impressive historic buildings and the beautiful old town, there are several Game of Thrones filming locations to discover in and around Split, which makes the city even more exciting.
I was particularly impressed by the people in Croatia. Croatians are very open, talkative and incredibly relaxed. I found it fascinating how calm and composed they are in life and how they don't let themselves get upset easily – something I definitely took away with me. Split is also a very safe city where I felt comfortable at all times.
I was at the Tourism & Hospitality Faculty, where all my courses were offered in English. There were many international students in the lectures, which meant you quickly got to know new people from all over the world. The lecturers were also very friendly, helpful and always open to questions.
In my free time, I did a lot with the other Erasmus students. Our trip to Trogir, a lovely little town right on the water, was particularly enjoyable, but spending time on the beach or eating together in the old town was also very special for me.
I can really recommend everyone to spend a semester abroad and broaden their horizons. Not only do you get to know the culture of the country, but you also meet lots of great people from all over the world. For me, it was one of the best experiences I've ever had and I would do it again anytime.
