Dr. Dr. Chongliang Zhong combines applied research, international professional experience, and innovative teaching at the intersection of business, technology, and society. 

His academic profile is situated under the overarching framework of the Future of Work and focuses on strategic human resource management as well as the design of organizations in demographically shaped, sustainable, and technology-driven work environments.

Academic and Professional Background

Dr. Dr. Zhong completed two doctoral degrees in engineering-related disciplines at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) and RWTH Aachen University.

He has more than 15 years of professional and research experience in academia and industry, including approximately ten years in leadership positions at project, product, industry, and departmental levels.

His professional focus has included applied research, knowledge and technology transfer, as well as strategic organizational development, business development, and innovation management in industrial and research-oriented contexts.

Research Areas and Interests

The research of Dr. Dr. Zhong is practice-oriented and embedded within the framework of the Future of Work. It addresses the design of work, organizations, and leadership in technology-driven and sustainable work environments and focuses on key challenges in strategic human resource management, organizational development, and corporate governance and steering.

His main research areas and interests include:

  • Innovative work and organizational models (e.g., skill-based organizations, self-organized and hybrid organizational forms)
  • Human–AI collaboration
  • Know-how management as well as knowledge and technology transfer
  • ESG, sustainability strategy, and sustainable management

Teaching

In his teaching, Dr. Dr. Zhong pursues an application-oriented, dialogical, and project-based approach. He teaches in German- and English-taught bachelor’s and master’s programs.
His courses combine theoretical foundations with practice-oriented case studies, project work, and current issues from business and society.
