This was one of the key topics discussed during the visit of Prof. Dr. Heike Graßmann, State Secretary at the Saxon State Ministry for Science, Culture and Tourism, to Dresden University of Applied Sciences at its Straßburger Platz campus.
In an open and constructive exchange, the participants discussed the role of universities of applied sciences within the higher education system, their importance in addressing the shortage of skilled professionals, and the opportunities arising from even closer collaboration between academia, industry, and society.
The timing could not have been better: just a few days ago, the German Council of Science and Humanities published its recommendations for the further development of the private higher education sector. The report clearly emphasizes that private higher education institutions can make a significant contribution to innovation, practice-oriented education, and greater permeability within the education system.
At Dresden University of Applied Sciences, we see these recommendations as a strong endorsement of our approach: combining academic excellence, close cooperation with industry, innovation, and social responsibility.
