The FHD is a young and dynamic university that is constantly picking up on trends and developments in the training market for specialists and executives as well as in research and further education. It would like to support UNEMI with its network and work with it as a contact and network partner to Europe, Germany, Saxony and Dresden. In concrete terms, the present project is intended to contribute to the structural strengthening of teaching and networking in professional practice through the development of a joint study programme as well as the further education and training of academic staff at UNEMI. Ecuador offers good starting conditions and opportunities for (sustainable) tourism, a continuously growing economic sector, which will ultimately also be closely linked to rural regional development. Current developments in 2018, such as restrictions on oil production, the expansion of nature conservation areas, as well as the national development plan adopted in 2017, which essentially aims for ecologically sustainable economic development, make targeted scientific monitoring and support in the field of tourism development appear sensible. Tourism revenues can benefit infrastructure, education and health projects in the larger context. Here, as a partner, we contribute our expertise in the field of tourism & event management. The practical orientation, which is classical for a university of applied sciences, is to be transferred step by step to UNEMI within the framework of the cooperation. In particular, non-university partners, companies and public institutions are to be involved in the project from the very beginning in order to increase the added value for the UNEMI, the Milagro region and the neighbouring city of Guayaquil, or the country of Ecuador as a whole. In accordance with the programme objectives of the funding programme "Subject-related Partnerships with Universities in Developing Countries", the present project "FHD-UNEMI-TEM" pursues the following objectives:
1. the joint degree programme "Sustainable Tourism & Event Management" to be jointly developed corresponds to the local context and the current state of research and concludes with a joint degree of FHD and UNEMI. (FHD Outcome 1)
(FHD Outcome 2) Both FHD and UNEMI have gained expertise in development cooperation and both partners benefit from the joint cross-national teaching and learning exchange in teaching, research and further education. (FHD Outcome 2)
Development-relevant and resilient subject-specific networks in the field of tourism and event management between FHD, UNEMI and local institutions are established and actively used. (FHD Outcome 3)
